SHUTTLEBUSTERS - 8pm WEDNESDAYS - PRESTON

The Beginners & Improvers group at Preston in Yeovil is now a club, playing (Wednesdays 8-10pm) with feather shuttles. The club constitution reflects the original objectives of the group: it will remain open to both beginners and improvers, and provides coaching so that players can learn the game and improve. Membership is £52 (£5 per night for visitors). The terms are 17 weeks approx, January-April, May-August and September-December.

The sports centre is at Preston School, in Monks Dale in Yeovil - the sports hall is around the back of the school, and there's parking at the back, alongside the outdoor football & netball area.

Note: if you're a member and miss your usual evening then you can come Monday or Friday (not Wednesday) instead the same or next week instead (pay-as-you-go players can turn up to any session anyway, obviously).

SHUTTLEBUSTERS - 8pm FRIDAYS - OXLEY

There is now a second Shuttlebusters session on 2-3 courts at Oxley Sports Centre in Sherborne on Fridays 8-10pm. Rates for Friday members are £4 per night or £37 per term (14 weeks). We often schedule match play in the same venue at the same time (usually the friendly league).

SHUTTLEBUSTERS - 8pm MONDAYS - WESTFIELD     *NEW*

There is now a third Shuttlebusters session, at Westfield School in Yeovil on Mondays 8-10pm. The core of the Monday session are a group hoping to raise a team to play in the league next season (you don't have to share that objective, but if you do then it would be a good idea to make yourself known). Cost is £4 pay-as-you-go.

EVENING CLASSES - 8pm MONDAYS - WESTFIELD     *NEW*

Somerset Skills & Learning are now offering badminton evening classes on Mondays at 8pm at Westfield School (we're sharing the hall with two courts for the club and two for the evening classes). The start date is 25th January and the coach will be Helen Manfield.

Course codes are EAQ09YEA06 (beginners, cost £36, one hour, ten weeks) and SAQ09YEA07 (improvers, cost £44, two hours, six weeks with an option to extend).

Start time will actually be 8pm for both - initially it will be beginners and improvers together in one class. Fees for late joiners are reduced pro-rata. Concessionary rates are £20 (beginners) and £24 (improvers).

SEASONS - 5pm SUNDAYS & 8pm THURSDAYS - OXLEY     *NEW*

Seasons is another open club at Oxley Sports Centre in Sherborne on Thursdays 8-10pm and Sundays 5-8pm with plastic shuttles. Pay-as-you go is £3.50 if your play three hours and £2.50 for two hours (people come and go during the three-hour session).

EVENING CLASSES - 7pm MONDAYS - PRESTON

Somerset Leisure has a coaching class 7-8pm Mondays at Preston Sports Centre with Helen Manfield as the coach. For current costs and dates contact Preston Sports Centre, Monks Dale, Yeovil (phone is 01935 412137).

SOCIAL BADMINTON - 8:30pm MONDAYS - OXLEY

Oxley Sports Centre also have a "Social Badminton" session at 8.30 to 10 on Mondays. This works much the same way as Shuttlebusters (the leisure centre staff run the session) except they use plastic shuttles and currently have no coaches. Cost is £4 per session.

BADMINTON COACHING - STRODE

The part-time prospectus for Strode College (in Street) has badminton evening classes (listed as Beginners & Improvers at 7.30-10 on Mondays, and Intermediate & Advanced at 7-8.30 on Thursdays). Phone is 01458 844400.

BADMINTON COACHING - CREWKERNE

Crewkerne Sports Centre has coaching for adults, both beginners and improvers, Monday and Tuesday evenings and a club on Friday evenings. There's also coaching for juniors on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Phone is 01460 271683.

BADMINTON COACHING - GRYPHON

Gryphon Sports Centre (in Sherborne) has coaching for adults and juniors, both beginners and improvers, 6-7pm on Tuesdays with Pete Allen. Phone is 01935 814011.
